Below are Google sites or tools that are not as well known as Docs or Maps - and they should be! Some of the sites provide tips and tricks using Google's Workspace apps and tools. The list will be updated as new and current information is found.
75 Apps for Education a public Slide deck that lists and describes apps for teachers and students from Google Play. Note: Google Playstore apps are installable only on Android devices, Chromebooks, and some on Chrome.
Animal Sounds - great for sound recognition! Type "animal sounds" in a Google Search then mooove your mouse to select and listen. Bonus: using an Android phone use the Chrome search to find a tiger or shark or dog or kitten. Allow the 3d and follow the directions (tigers are quite big!)
Applied Digital Skills - a collection of video-based lessons to teach digital literacy - at the end of each lesson the user has a finished project (PBL). Lesson plans and rubriks available to copy and connection to students is available. All skills are transferrable to other platforms.
Arts and Culture - allow users to explore the world's diversity through art and photo's. Historical events and figures as well as information about different cultures are all represented. Games and labs also allow users to curate or create their own art projects. A MUST for teachers! Information about the project can be found at about.artsandculture.google.com.
Be Internet Awesome - select the "Explore Interland" button to learn how to safely use the Internet. Geared towards K-8, the game-based lessons are good for any age!
Chrome Music Maker - make and play music! Different "labs" can create sounds based on user selection OR use the "Song Maker" to create and then download songs you create. After download, place the mp4 file in Drive and use in Slides or Sites as "theme song."
Chromebook Simulator - learn how a Chromebook works without having a Chromebook. Chrome browser highly recommended to use the site.
Earth Resources - used with Google Earth, this partner site has different maps, some with 3d rendering, historical overlays, as well as Space and Oceanic maps (with descriptions).
Google Earth - more than maps! Explore the earth as you never have before. Use the Voyager tool for ready made lessons. Use the Project tool to create your own Earth projects. Dive deep into oceans to view shipwrecks and view active volcanoes up close without melting!
Google Fonts - is a library of over 1,000 open source font families for use via CSS (cascading style sheet) and Android. Download them for use in digital products for Android, iOS, and web.
Google Lit Trips allows a reader to plot out the travels of the fictional characters of popular literature. Follow the story of the Illiad or The Grapes of Wrath using Google Earth.
Google Workspace Learning Center once the page opens, select a tool to view simple tutorials on its use. Overviews, tips, and troubleshooting also available.
MyMaps - Google My Maps allows you to create maps with POI's, units of measure, define areas, and layer them all. The finished map can be saved and inserted or linked into lessons. Select this link to see a demo.
QuickDraw - an online game where a neural net tries to guess what is being drawn - think Pictionary online!
Translator - there is an app and there is a web site:
The app - after installing from AppStore or PlayStore, converse with someone who speaks another language using translator on your phone (think Star Trek Translator).
The site - translate entire documents and web sites by uploading or adding the URL (use Chrome, it works better).
Trends - use to see what the world is searching at the moment or back in time. What did you search for in 2004?
